Federal Investment to Lower Energy Costs and Create Jobs in Rural Missouri
COLUMBIA, MO. July 26, 2024 – Today, USDA Rural Development Missouri State Director Kyle Wilkens announced a $99.3 million Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) loans and grants to help agriculture producers and small businesses in rural areas make energy efficiency improvements, expand access to clean energy, and lower energy costs, and create jobs in Rural Missouri.
“Farmers and small business owners are always seeking ways to increase efficiency – and by purchasing new or upgrading existing renewable energy systems, they see tremendous improvement to their bottom line" Wilkens stated. "We have a lot of savvy business folks in rural Missouri who know a good deal when they see it - and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results" Wilkens concluded.
USDA Rural Development Missouri investment examples of projects being announced today:
- Viebrock Farms Stover LLC, a poultry farm in Stover, Missouri, received a grant of $344,666 to install a new 282.42 kilowatt (kW) solar array system. This project will save $22,747 annually and enough energy to power 36 homes.
- David Palmer Farms, Inc., an ag producer in Bolckow, Missouri, received a grant of $163,858 to install a new energy-efficient grain dryer to replace one diesel tractor for his farming operation. This project will save $30,945 annually and enough energy to power 46 homes.
- myCPAguy LLC, an accounting firm in Highlandville, Missouri, received a grant of $49,855 to install a solar array. The arrays will save $5,557 annually and replace 87% of the business's energy use annually
- Palma Academy of Learning LLC, a learning center for autistic persons in Kennett, Missouri, received a grant of $38,153 to install a new HVAC system and upgrade the center's electrical system. This project is expected to save $1,330, or 30% of the center's energy use annually.
