USDA Rural Development State Director for Colorado Sallie Clark announced an $86,435 Rural Business Development Grant to the Fremont County Economic Development Corporation (FEDC) today. The funding will support the Fremont Skills Business Cooperative, known as Project Constellation.
Project Constellation is a business led cooperative designed to grow and retain local talent in Fremont County. Built through collaboration between employers, it combines shared services, hands on training, and career investment to reduce hiring costs and strengthen recruitment. “This collaboration will strengthen workforce pathways, connect people to good-paying jobs and expand support for rural businesses across Fremont County,” said Clark. “Partnerships with economic development groups, such as the FEDC, are critical in unlocking opportunities and ensuring that federal investments reach the people and businesses who are driving the growth in our rural communities.”
Businesses participating `in the project will fund scholarships and provide industry specific training materials, ensuring students gain practical, real-world skills. In return, participants will have access to direct pathways into local careers and the opportunity to become part owners upon completion. The cooperative model builds long-term commitment on both sides, helping businesses develop a reliable workforce while giving participants a meaningful stake in their future and their community. The project is expected to assist 45 local businesses, resulting in up to 225 jobs being created in Fremont County.
