Rural Development’s $11 million investment will assist growing rural community handle waste water
EDENTON, NC, Sept. 18, 2025 — State Director Robert Hosford and members of the USDA Rural Development Team participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony with the town of Edenton today.
USDA Rural Development invested $11 million in USDA Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants to assist in the upgrade Edenton’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The renovation project included:
- Construction and rehabilitation of the mechanical treatment and wastewater conveyance equipment at the lagoon and spray fields.
- Upgrades to the administration building.
- Mechanical improvements to the lagoon aeration system, headworks, pump station and disinfection system.
- Piping reconfiguration.
- Tree removal
“This completion of this USDA project is having an immediate positive impact on this rural community,” said Hosford. “Our growing rural communities in North Carolina need systems in place to handle all of their needs. We are glad we are able to assist Edenton and Chowan county as it continues to grow.”
The USDA Water and Waste Water Loan and Grant provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.
