The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is accepting loan applications from utilities to help rural families and small businesses make cost-saving energy efficiency improvements.

Through the Rural Energy Savings Program (RESP), qualified utilities and similar intermediaries can apply for funding to help provide loans to rural families and small businesses to help them make energy efficiency improvements that will reduce their energy costs. The funds may also be used to replace manufactured housing units with more energy-efficient models.

To begin the process, applicants must submit a letter of intent to RESP@usda.gov. Paper submissions will not be accepted. Letters of intent will be considered in the order they are received. USDA will notify selected applicants in writing if they are invited to apply. Applicants will then have 90 days to submit a completed application.

To discuss your project proposal, contact Bob Coats with USDA's Electric Programs at (202) 260-5415. For additional information, including details on how to apply, see page 81178 of the December 15, 2020, Federal Register.
