USDA State Director Colleen Landkamer today visited the city of Princeton today, alongside U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and U.S. Representative Rick Nolan, to tour the recently completed $16 million wastewater treatment plant.

“This key investment in one of Minnesota’s standout rural communities is a great example of the importance of water and wastewater infrastructure in rural America,” said Landkamer. “Modern infrastructure spurs economic development and is a major factor in sustaining long-term growth and development. I want to commend Princeton city officials and everyone who had the vision to make this project happen.”

The upgraded plant on the southern part of the city near the Rum River, is now able to accommodate the continuing population growth in Princeton that has occurred over the last several years and better accommodate the city’s current residents.

The seven-year, $16 million project included upgrading an existing pump house, a new building for three new pumps, an additional oxidation ditch which will allow phosphorus removal biologically, a disinfection building and an emergency generator.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested over $343 million in water and wastewater infrastructure for rural communities throughout Minnesota, and over $6 billion through more than 40 programs.

Rural Development also invests in housing, water and wastewater treatment, community facilities, renewable energy and broadband. For more information on USDA Rural Development programs, please visit www.rd.usda.gov/mn and contact your local area office.
