The City of Batavia reached a transformative milestone with the recent grand opening of their new state-of-the-art police station. This was a project made possible through $12.5 million in critical support from U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s Community Facilities program. For years, the city’s police department operated out of an aging facility that no longer met modern standards for safety, accessibility, or operational efficiency. Space limitations, outdated infrastructure, and rising community needs underscored the urgency for a new, purpose‑built facility that could support both current demands and long‑term public safety goals.

“USDA Rural Development is proud to have been a partner with the City of Batavia in creating a modern police facility that strengthens public safety for the entire community”, said USDA Rural Development New York State Director Richard Mayfield. “Our law enforcement professionals show unwavering commitment every day, and they deserve the tools necessary to carry out their mission effectively and safely. This new station is an investment not only in infrastructure, but in the men and women who protect and serve Batavia with integrity and dedication.”

The new building enhances emergency response operations, provides adequate training and meeting space, improves accessibility for all residents, and incorporates modern technology to support law enforcement functions. 

The impact of the project extends well beyond bricks and mortar. The new police station has strengthened trust between residents and law enforcement by providing a space that is open, welcoming, and equipped for community engagement. Officers now have the tools and environment they need to work effectively, while residents benefit from improved services and a renewed sense of safety.

City officials credit USDA Rural Development as an essential partner in turning a long‑standing need into a reality. The Community Facilities program’s affordable financing enabled the city to undertake a major capital project without placing an undue burden on local taxpayers.

“This facility will serve as a second home for our staff,” said Batavia Police Chief Christopher Camp. “It enhances safety for all employees while creating an efficient and welcoming work environment. It also includes modern amenities that were simply not available at our previous facility.”
