Water Treatment Plant Construction

With a population of more than 20,000 residents and an expected growth of approximately 10,000 new residents, the Poplar Grove Utility District in Tipton County, Tennessee understands the importance of being able to support the new growth coming to their community.

In September 2023, Popular Grove Utility District (PGUD) passed a resolution to apply for a Water & Environmental Program (WEP) loan. They reached out to the Jackson Area Office for assistance with the expansion for the existing water treatment plant.

PGUD currently services more than 20,000 residents with clean, reliable water, and with the new Blue Oval City being built just across the county line, PGUD is preparing for the influx of new customers moving to town.

The (WEP) loan will be used for the expansion of an existing water treatment plant and the construction of a new raw water well. Through Rural Utilities Service WEP, rural communities can obtain the financing necessary to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems. Safe drinking water and sanitary waste disposal systems are an everyday necessity. USDA Rural Development works with our local community leaders and organizations to build reliable water systems for the people of rural Tennessee.

In February 2024, PGUD’s project was approved and obligated for $8.4 million. Construction is set to begin in Spring 2025.
