Virginia

Presidential Disaster Declaration DR-4831 makes individual assistance available to residents of Giles, Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, and Wythe counties and the independent city of Galax who were impacted by Tropical Storm Helene, which hit the area on September 25, 2024, and continuing.

“We Care” letters have been mailed to homeowners in impacted areas, but we recognize service may be disrupted as people are displaced. Post offices may hold them along with other mail or homeowners may forward their mail to a temporary location. View a copy of this letter.

State Director Perry Hickman has requested these servicing actions for Virginia borrowers

  1. Extension of payment assistance agreements expiring within the next six months for at least an additional six months to allow borrowers to gather important papers and complete their payment assistance renewal applications.
  2. Waiver of late fees for homeowners in the affected areas for at least six months.
  3. Implementation of a six-month payment moratorium on accrued interest with no package required. These charges will be waived once the account is re-amortized at the end of the moratorium period.

Borrowers can verbally request a moratorium by calling (888) 796-0538 or TDD (800) 438-1832 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time on Monday through Friday and will receive a Moratorium Fact Sheet explaining the process. Please note that this action will increase the borrower’s monthly payment once the moratorium has expired and the loan is re-amortized.
