New ERA awardee will purchase a quantity of clean energy. After the purchase is made, the RUS grant can reimburse the awardee up to 25 percent of the cost. RUS’s PPA grants provide operating capital.

In Chisago City, Minnesota, Aliesha Larson faced a daunting challenge as a single mother living with three of her children. Living with her daughter Ali, who uses a wheelchair, and her two sons in a cramped two-bedroom rental was becoming increasingly difficult. The multi-level home posed significant mobility issues for her daughter, especially since the walls were unsuitable for installing a chair lift. Aliesha carried Ali up and down the stairs at least twice daily, a physically demanding and emotionally taxing task.
