(Woodbine, Iowa, July 31, 2026) – U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Iowa State Director Mike Sexton participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Natural Fertilizer Products, Inc. in Woodbine. The company is celebrating the completion of one of its two Waste into Nutrient Recovery Centers, which will turn food and livestock waste into natural fertilizer. Rural Development is investing nearly $4 million between this facility and another located near Audubon.
   

(Stevens Point, Wis., Aug. 3, 2026) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is accepting applications now through August 17, 2026, for the Fertilizer Investment & Expansion for Long-term Domestic Supply (FIELDS) Program.

The FIELDS program is designed to increase domestic fertilizer production and strengthen long-term supply for farmers producing agricultural commodities. Through the Commodity Credit Corporation, USDA’s Rural Business-Cooperative Service will administer up to $500 million in investments through the FIELDS program.

Located just seven miles south of Sisseton lies Sisseton Wahpeton College. Home to roughly 200 students, the Tribal college offers a wide range of education opportunities from students interested in earning their Commercial Driver’s License certificate to completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science or Business Administration.

For one group of students, taking courses towards a career in healthcare while staying close to home offers more than a textbook example of college life.
