Rebuilding Hope in Rural New York: The Putman Family’s Road to Recovery

 

What began as a warm and tranquil August morning in Bath, New York, quickly turned into ravaging storm. Tropical Storm Debby unleashed powerful winds and relentless rain in upstate New York, including the southern tier region of Steuben, Allegany, Broome, and Delaware Counties. Within hours, floodwaters engulfed the home of Dorothy (“Dody”) and Keith Putman, giving Dody and her grandson only moments to save as many important household items and cherished memories as she and her grandson could, before moving to higher ground.

USDA Rural Development Participating in National Homeownership Event in Lumberton

(Lumberton, N.C., June 25, 2026) - Members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development North Carolina team celebrated a family’s milestone of the American Dream of homeownership when they cut a ribbon and are welcomed into their home today.

The families partnered with Rural Development utilizing the Single-Family Housing Direct Home Loans program, also known as the Section 502 Direct Loan Program.

USDA Announces Bates Township Hall Improvements and Holds Opportunity Zone Roundtables

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia today announced a $250,000 investment to relocate and renovate the Bates Township Hall in Iron County. The hall serves as the center for the township government and an election polling location.

The funding announcement was made while Rural Development was co-hosting an Opportunity Zone roundtable in Marquette. Another Opportunity Zone roundtable will take place on June 25 in Sault Ste. Marie.

(WASHINGTON, D.C., June 23, 2026) — U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins today announced a series of leadership appointments at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), including new roles within the Rural Development mission area. These appointments reflect the Department's continued commitment to implementing President Trump's America First agenda and putting Farmers First across rural America.
