U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Travis T. Burton today announced over $16.8 million in USDA grant funds to rebuild parts of the city of Fleming-Neon’s water system.
The grants come by way of USDA’s Calendar Year 2022 Disaster Water Grants program and will help repair and replace various parts of the water system, which was damaged in the historic July 2022 flooding.
“Part of rural Kentucky’s strength comes from our ability to work together when times get tough,” said Burton. “This is just the latest example of that strength. Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Rollins, USDA will continue partnering across Kentucky to improve infrastructure, economic prosperity, and quality of life.”
The city of Fleming-Neon will use four different grants:
- A $5.4 million grant to repair and replace 40,200 feet of watermain and attachments (valves, hydrants, and meters).
- A $1.77 million grant to repair and replace various water system parts such as manholes, sewer mains, water service lines, and water meters.
- A $3.9 million grant to replace approximately 18,580 linear feet of 6-inch and 10,650 linear feet of 3-inch water lines and associated fixtures.
- A $5.7 million grant to replace 43,000 linear feet of water lines and associated fixtures, gate valves, flushing hydrants and radio read meters.
Today’s announcement shows the administration’s commitment to standing with America’s rural communities during their times of need. USDA Rural Development continues to prioritize swift and effective disaster relief, ensuring no community is left behind following natural disasters.
