
Joe Gilson
Chief of Staff
Joe Gilson joined the Trump Administration in March of 2025 as Chief of Staff at U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. In this role, he provides management and analytical support to the Undersecretary, ensuring the smooth operation of the agency, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. Prior to joining the Trump Administration, Joe worked at American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) as Director of Government Affairs. His portfolio in this capacity included commodities, conservation, environment, biofuels and transportation.
Before joining AFBF, Joe worked for Senator Chuck Grassley as the legislative assistant for agriculture, trade, energy and environmental issues for four years. Prior to that, Joe worked as a Policy Advisor at USDA Rural Development. A native Iowa, Gilson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science and English from Simpson College in 2014.
