Stevens Point, Wis., Dec.1, 2025 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) State Director Andrew C. Iverson announced today that the Burnett Sanitary District #1 will use a USDA RD grant of $703,000 to install a new lift station and force main sewer lateral in Burnett Township, Wisconsin. These improvements will help maintain the water system used by all residents and businesses in the town of Burnett, Wisconsin.

The existing wastewater facility was built in 1977 as a three-stage lagoon system and can no longer effectively remove the phosphorus levels to meet the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource limitations.

This efficiency upgrade will involve installing a new lift station that will pump waste from Burnett through a force main to a collection system tie-in with the city of Beaver Dam.

"Modernizing water and sanitation services is crucial for the safety and prosperity of rural communities," said Iverson. “This project is another example of President Trump and Secretary Rollins’ commitment to investing in modernizing infrastructure to improve the quality of life for rural Wisconsinites.”

Burnett Sanitary District #1 owns and operates the wastewater collection system, which consists of approximately 7,900 feet of gravity sewers, 45 manholes, one lift station, and a wastewater treatment facility.

The funding announced today is in addition to a loan of $380,000 and a grant of $1,644,000 that USDA RD invested in the project in 2024.

This USDA RD investment is through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program. More information about the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program is available online, here: www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/water-environmental-programs/water-waste-disposal-loan-grant-program/wi.
