WEST WENDOVER, Nev., May 28, 2025 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Nevada State Director Alida Ceballos recently represented the agency at the long-awaited dedication of the City of West Wendover Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center. USDA Rural Development was the primary funding partner for this project, providing an $8.9 million loan and a $200,000 grant through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. This new station replaces a small, leased facility and enables the City of West Wendover to adequately provide emergency services to the community and allow for future growth.
“USDA Rural Development is proud to partner with the City of West Wendover and see this project, which provides critical public safety infrastructure, achieve completion,” said Ceballos. “A key plank of the Trump administration is investing in rural prosperity, and having vitally essential fire fighting facilities is a demonstration of that commitment. It is a bright new day for the city of West Wendover and their first responders, and USDA Rural Development is proud to support their success as the leading advocate for rural prosperity in Nevada.”
The new fire station is a major investment in the growing city of West Wendover, and has additional fire truck bay space, offices, dormitories, and other support space for the West Wendover Fire Department.
This Rural Development investment also included funding partners in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the Nevada State Infrastructure Bank, and the City of West Wendover. The Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as one that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial, or business undertakings. Eligible borrowers include public bodies, Tribes, and community-based non-profits.
