Rural Development’s $370 thousand investment will assist local community’s ability to have fresh produce
RIEGELWOOD, North Carolina— State Director Robert Hosford and members of the USDA Rural Development Team participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony with the town of East Arcadia in Riegelwood today.
Rural Development is investing $370 thousand through a USDA Rural Business Development Grant to renovate the town hall and fire department in order to create a small business center for a farmer’s market.
“The revitalization of the town hall and fire department into a multiuse space for the town is a huge boost for the community,” said Hosford. “USDA was proud to partner in this project that creates a space that benefits the rural population in multiple ways throughout the week.”
The indoor market and open area will easily host 8-10 vendors. The facility will also be ideal for community events such as fundraisers, live music events and craft shows.
USDA Rural Business Development Grants promote economic development and job creation projects through the awarding of grant funds to eligible entities.
