On Friday, August 2, 2024; Hardeman County Community Health Center opened the doors of their new Women and Children’s Clinic in Bolivar, Tennessee. The clinic hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for a brand-new facility more than 5,000 square feet. Hardeman County Community Health Center received more than $2 million in Community Facilities Loans and Emergency Rural Healthcare Grants to construct this new facility. The new building will house multiple exam rooms and improve the health center’s ability to provide healthcare to the more than 5,400 residents of Bolivar.

In the Fall of 2021, Hardeman County Community Health Center reached out to the local Rural Development Office in Jackson, Tennessee for assistance. They were seeking funding to construct a new Women and Children’s Health Clinic as a result of a growing community and pandemic related challenges with staff and supplies. Walt Downing, Area Specialist, worked with Marlita White, CEO, on the process of applying for a Community Facility Loan as well as shared with her our agencies most recent initiative, the Emergency Rural Healthcare Grant.

The Emergency Rural Healthcare (ERHC) Grant is designed to help expand access to COVID-19 testing and vaccines, rural healthcare services, and food assistance through food banks and food distribution facilities. The ERHC Grant consists of two funding streams for eligible applicants. Hardeman County Community Health Center was able to apply under Track One: recovery grants provided for immediate relief to address economic conditions resulting from the COVID-19 emergency.

In June 2022, Hardeman County Community Health Center was approved for more than $2 million for the construction of their project. With interim construction financing from Centennial Bank, construction began in June 2023. TLM Architects and Engineers and General Contractor Allison Contracting ensured a project completion of July 2024.

“USDA Rural Development’s support and commitment to improve, develop and cultivate rural health was demonstrated through providing grant funds to construct a Women and Children’s Health Care Center in Bolivar, TN,” Marlita White, HCCHC CEO said. “The process was smooth, and our Area Specialist, Walt Downing, was very helpful and informative. I look forward to working with USDA Rural Development in the future on other projects with Hardeman County Community Health Center.”
