WV Glenville State University 2024 Community Facilities Grant

The city of Glenville, West Virginia is a little safer now thanks to assistance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development. Since 2018, Rural Development has provided a total of $72,950 in grant funding to Glenville State University (GSU) and the city of Glenville to purchase new police cruisers through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. The investments have helped expand the fleet of public safety vehicles; directly benefiting the more 3,500 residents and student population that make up the community.

"Nothing is more important to the mission of Glenville State University than protecting the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff,” said GSU President Mark A. Manchin.

Having adequate and dependable public safety equipment, like vehicles, is critical for both of these departments to respond to emergency situations at a moment’s notice. These investments will help ensure law enforcement entities in Glenville will continue to have the resources they need to protect and serve the residents and students of their community. This ongoing partnership with the city and University is a testament of Rural Development’s long-term commitment to enhancing public safety in our rural communities.

“Creating a safe atmosphere is absolutely key in providing the proper environment for academic achievement and self-development," said GSU President Manchin. "We cannot thank the USDA Rural Development enough for this impactful funding that allowed us to purchase a new public safety vehicle, helping to reduce response time on campus and enhancing overall security. This crucial investment is an indication of the importance of collaboration between GSU and USDA RD.”
