Rural Development’s $721 thousand investment will help rural families construct their forever homes in Western N.C.

COLUMBUS, North Carolina— State Director Robert Hosford and members of the USDA Rural Development Team announced a $721 thousand grant with the Housing Assistance Corporation, welcomed two families into their homes and broke ground on seven homes in Columbus, N.C., today.

All of these projects were made with the assistance of USDA Rural Development Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants.

Rural Development is providing funding to HAC for necessary technical and supervisory assistance to its Rural Housing loan applicants. This assistance will allow the HAC to provide construction supervision and training for 18 families while they complete construction of their homes.

“Helping rural families move into their forever homes is a big part of our mission in Rural Development,” said Hosford. “Celebrating each phase of this process is amazing. I look forward to coming back and seeing these projects develop.”

USDA Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Program provides grants to qualified organizations, in rural areas, to help them carry out local self-help housing construction projects.

Rural Development and the HAC have worked together, for over 20 years, to assist families living in the rural areas of western North Carolina to build and restore homes.
