As the early morning temperature rises to 75 degrees, you know it will be another hot summer day. As you walk up the sidewalk leading to Ariel’s house, you are greeted by the symphony of singing birds, and beautiful sunflowers adorning flower beds along the porch.
Ariel struggled for years to find a home for herself, and she felt like she was at the end of the road. Living between homeless shelters and finding a safe place to stay has been an immense challenge for Ariel throughout her life.
Ariel's journey from Arizona to Missouri was strenuous, but she held hope for a better life. Her living situation was not ideal, and as she expected, she was just days away from being homeless again. Everything changed when she discovered the USDA Rural Development's Single-Family Housing Direct Loan program.
If it weren't for the USDA Home loan, I would be homeless again
With the help of her USDA Rural Development processing team, Loan Specialists Mike and Becky, Ariel was able to purchase her perfect home. Mike and Becky, who walked her through the process and continuously provided Ariel guidance, were supportive throughout her homeownership journey. “Mike’s help throughout the process prevented me from buying a home that would have required a lot of extra money,” Ariel explained, “which I didn’t have.”
"I can't believe this is my home,” Ariel continued, “It is perfect for my sweet pet and me. If it weren't for the USDA Home loan, I would be homeless again. I thank God for everything and every day." Ariel tends to her small garden and does chores around the house, thankful for every opportunity to appreciate her home. She hopes to give back to the community by sharing her story and reaching out to other families who may also seek help finding the right home for them.
Ariel's journey is one of many that have found a brighter path with the help of Rural Development loans and grants. While Missouri’s sweltering heat will continue through the summer, Ariel’s home will stay cool, and her heart will stay warm, grateful for the safety and sanctity that her home provides.
