On August 28, 2019, Saluda County Water and Sewer Authority celebrated the grand opening of their new water treatment plant. The new facility will provide four million gallons per day of treated water to Saluda County and can be expanded to treat six million gallons per day.
When the project initially began, Saluda County Water and Sewer Authority (Authority) Chairman Jerry Strawbridge announced that the $20.1 Million Water Treatment Plant (WTP) would be built withdrawing water from Lake Murray, calling it the largest economic investment in Saluda County history.
The project was funded through a $13,143,000 loan, a $7,133,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA RD), and a $500,000 match to be paid by the Authority. The finished project will allow the Authority to be competitive in selling wholesale water to its neighbors and avoiding price hikes to the Authority’s customers, thereby promoting economic growth for Saluda County.
