STAKEHOLDER Announcement: USDA Seeks Applications for Grants to Offset High Energy Costs in Rural Areas

Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Joel Baxley today announced that USDA is seeking applications for grants to offset high energy costs in rural areas. In Nevada the Moapa Tribe used a HEC grant to offset the cost of converting from diesel power to a combination of solar, high efficiency diesel, and battery power on their reservation outside Las Vegas.

USDA is Seeking Applications for Funding to Support Commercial-scale Biorefineries

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is seeking applications for funding to support the development on a commercial scale of biofuels that use renewable feedstocks.

The Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical, and Biobased Product Manufacturing Assistance Program provides loan guarantees to help develop, construct, or retrofit commercial-scale biorefineries and to develop renewable chemicals and biobased product manufacturing facilities.

STAKEHOLDER ANNOUNCEMENT: USDA Seeks Applications for Investments to Encourage the Use of Bioenergy to Operate Biorefineries

Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett today announced that USDA is accepting applications to encourage the use of renewable biomass as an alternative for fossil fuels to operate eligible biorefineries.

   Funding is being made available under the Repowering Assistance Program. To be eligible, biorefineries must have been in existence on or before June 18, 2008. This program provides financial incentives to install new systems that use or produce new energy from renewable biomass.
