USDA Rural Development State Director Maxine Moul met with Manager Pat Bakerink at the O’Neill Senior Center today to tour the facility and see what Rural Development funds had helped accomplish for the Center.

“I like visiting the communities that we have assisted on project funding,” said Moul.  “Seeing the results of how we help rural residents with their senior center needs is important as it is a place for them to gather and find fellowship.”

O’Neill Senior Citizen’s Center Corporation received a grant of $21,900 from USDA.  These funds in addition to $117,711 in applicant funds were used to add a parking lot to the south side of the building including an entrance and vestibule; replace kitchen appliances; and renovation of some areas of the senior center.

“We appreciate the generous grant which we received from the USDA to help us complete our renovation project.  Our program began three years ago and we are so proud of our Senior Center, which has a new look.  Thank you to USDA and all contributors in our area, not just for the new look but for all the new equipment that assists us in our mission of providing nutrition and health related services to the elderly and handicapped residents in our community,” said Bakerink.

The senior center project was funded in part through the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Grant program. For more information contact Roberta Mues at 308-237-3118 ext.1128.
