The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development today commemorated the groundbreaking of the new Delta County correctional facility in Escanaba.
“This is a significant investment in public safety and critical infrastructure,” said Acting State Director for Michigan Jason P. Church.
The agency provided a $17.9 million loan to support the project, which includes construction of a 160-bed, pod-style correctional facility. The site is adjacent to an existing county-owned building that will be renovated and converted into the sheriff’s office and additional support space.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas.
