U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan Brandon Fewins today announced more than $1.4 million in grants to central Michigan and Thumb area agriculture producers and rural small businesses to make investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency to lower their costs, generate new income, and strengthen the resilience of their operation.
“Today’s announcement showcases the diversity of businesses that can receive funding and is an opportunity to highlight USDA’s work with rural communities in central Michigan and the Thumb,” said Fewins. “While significant, this is only a part of the support we provide through our renewable energy program and additional projects are on the way.”
The projects are funded through the Rural Energy for America Program, and total Michigan funding is $1,482,431.
Michigan State University will use a $99,999 grant to conduct 35 renewable energy assessments for agricultural producers and rural small businesses throughout Michigan.
