U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development State Director for Michigan Brandon Fewins today announced $649,827 in grants to northern Michigan and Upper Peninsula agriculture producers and rural small businesses to make investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency to lower their costs, generate new income, and strengthen the resilience of their operation.
“USDA continues to look for ways to strengthen rural communities and improve energy independence as well as efficiency,” said Fewins. “These projects are part of the largest sustained investment in renewable energy in history.”
The projects are funded through the Rural Energy for America Program, and are in addition to an earlier investment of $1,482,431 for projects in central Michigan and the Thumb.
