Rural Development’s $998 Thousand Grant Investment is Estimated to Benefit

3,875 Thousand Rural Residents

PINETOPS, N.C., December 14, 2023 – Members of North Carolina Rural Development Team announced a USDA Distance Learning Telemedicine Grant with Edgecombe County Public Schools, today.

Rural Development is investing $998 thousand through a USDA Distance Learning Telemedicine Grant to equip 10 HIPAA-compliant telemedicine stations sites in Edgecombe County Schools.

These stations will allow medical professionals and counselors to deliver mental health care instruction across the county.

“The investment we are making in the students of Edgecombe County is a game changer,” said a member of the Rural Development Team. “This USDA Distance Learning Telemedicine Grant will allow counselors to deliver care to students in need without the burden of leaving school, receiving attention and returning, if possible, to complete the days instruction. The ability to receive on-site counseling is a win for the parents and huge win for the students.”

This investment will potentially benefit 3,875 rural citizens.
