Dan Fischer
Acting State Director for Kansas
Dan Fischer has been with USDA Rural Development for the past 20 years and became the Deputy State Director in December 2022. Prior to becoming the Deputy State Director, Dan spent 4 years as the Community Programs Director, and 14 years in the field as a Loan Specialist assisting staff and rural municipalities, non-profit corporations, and Tribal entities obtain financial assistance to enhance their ability to provide essential community services. As Community Programs Director he managed a portfolio of approximately $380 million and focused on maximizing the project dollars allocated to Kansas and providing exceptional customer service to rural Kansas.
Dan is a lifelong Kansan, raised on a diversified grain and livestock farm in rural Wallace County. He currently resides on a small farm/ranch in rural Shawnee County. He graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Agricultural Business. Prior to coming to USDA Rural Development, Dan worked for a family-owned local bank in Topeka and Silver Lake in many roles over his 8 years, including Branch Manager and Loan Officer.
In his free time, Dan likes to spend time with his wife and two grown daughters, managing their small cow/calf herd and enjoying the great outdoors.
