Project Will Improve Rural Water Infrastructure for 300 Rural Residents and Businesses

TEMPLE, TX, Oct 21, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $720 thousand to modernize rural drinking water and wastewater in Midway, TX. USDA is providing the funding through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grant program.

“The investment announced today demonstrates our commitment to improving essential water services that will enhance the prosperity of rural Texans,” said State Director Edd Hargett. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

Recipients can use Water and Waste Disposal funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.

The City of Midway in Madison County will use a $417,000 loan and $303,000 grant to help finance water improvements to the city's existing system. The improvements include adding another 65,000-gallon ground storage tank, a duel media filtration system, and replacing the existing meters with remote read meters. These improvements will adequately deliver water to customers and reduce the water loss. This project will benefit over 300 rural residents and businesses.
