USDA Rural Development Recognizes Nebraska Multi-Family Housing Successes

Nebraska USDA Rural Development State Director Maxine Moul has recognized five outstanding Rural Development multi-family housing successes.

  • Carolyn Vakoc, the 2016 Multi-Family Housing Elderly Project Manager of the Year for Isabelle Village Apartments in Norfolk, Nebraska.
  • Goldenrod Regional Housing Agency, the 2016 Multi-Family Housing Family Project Manager of the Year for Maplewood Apartments in Pilger, Nebraska.
  • Julie Gockley, the 2016 Honorable Mention Nebraska Manager of the Year for Family Housing.  Julie is the Manager of Sunrise Apartments #2 in Imperial, Nebraska. 
  • Southeast Nebraska Community Action (SENCA) for Fulton Villa in Falls City, Nebraska. The property was selected as the Most Improved Multi Family Housing Project of the Year in Nebraska.
  • Scottsbluff Housing Authority earned the 2016 Most Improved Project of the Year for Valacia Apartments in Gering, Nebraska

USDA Rural Development currently provides financial assistance to 192 multi-family housing apartment projects in rural Nebraska. These projects provide rural Nebraskans with access to more than 3,000 affordable apartment units.  A tenant’s contribution towards rent is typically based on 30 percent of the tenant’s adjusted income if rental assistance is available. USDA Rural Development Multi-Family Housing Program offers financing to provide affordable multi-family rental housing for very low, low, and moderate-income families, including elderly and disabled individuals.  The financing includes both direct and guaranteed loans that may also be used to buy and improve land as well as the purchase and rehabilitation of an existing property.
