State Director for New Jersey
Appointed by President Biden, Jane Asselta currently serves at New Jersey State Director for Rural Development, a mission area within the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
USDA Rural Development provides loan and grant assistance to expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing, community facilities such as schools, public safety, and health care facilities; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
The first woman to hold this position, in her role as State Director, Jane leads a team of over 20 specialists delivering a comprehensive suite of investment programs and services designed to help residents and businesses in New Jersey’s rural communities increase economic opportunities and improve quality of life standards and conditions.
Prior to her appointment, Jane served for over 10 years as Vice President of the Southern New Jersey Development Council (SNJDC), a non-profit business association charged with promoting responsible economic development through business location and expansion services, providing relevant and timely content that supports business retention and expansion, and advocacy activities meeting its mission to encourage economic growth that leads to better jobs, higher wages and tax revenues in southern New Jersey.
Prior to joining the SNJDC, Jane operated a boutique fundraising consulting firm in Chicago, relocating in 2005 to South Jersey, providing candidates for public office services including developing a fundraising strategy and plan; structuring, staffing and supervising a finance department and team; and organizing major fundraising events with high-profile special guests that have included the President of the United States, the Vice President, the First Lady, Cabinet officials and entertainers and activists. Clients included U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (NJ), U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (IL), U.S. Senator Carol Moseley-Braun (IL), U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu (LA), Bill Bradley for President, and State Senator Jim Whelan, among others.
Once the weather turns warm, Jane can be found volunteering with the Haddon Township Community Garden Club and keeps her public service close to home serving as Treasurer and Membership Director of her neighborhood Bluebird Community Club.
Jane Asselta is a native of Vineland growing up a few miles from the family’s produce farm when “farm to table” was a way of life. Jane is a graduate of Douglass College, Rutgers University and Vineland High School.
