Department of Agriculture Rural Development Kentucky State Director Hilda Legg today kicked off National Homeownership Month by highlighting USDA’s ongoing role in supporting rural homeownership. President Donald Trump issued a proclamation May 29, 2020, recognizing June as National Homeownership Month.
“We are committed to assisting rural Kentuckians across the commonwealth achieve the dream of homeownership,” said Legg. “As many of us have transformed our homes into workspaces and safe havens, now more than ever we’ve seen the importance of a safe home, and we’ve been reminded of just how important a home can be in our daily life as well as our long-term financial well-being.”
In Kentucky, USDA invested over $456 million to help over 3,500 families and individuals buy a home. Rural Development Kentucky staff have also helped over 320 very-low-income rural residents with over $1.9 million for home repairs.
To assist homeowners facing current hardships, USDA is offering payment moratoriums and modified application processes. USDA Rural Development is also working with new borrowers and their lenders to make special accommodations based on local needs and restrictions.
